Ruminations

During my most recent trip to Abilene, Texas, I rented a car instead of taking a taxi.  Here is why.

The taxi service in Abilene, TX is absolutely horrible and unprofessional.  One family has a lock on all the cab companies except for one, and the service I got from them all was... well, almost non-existent.  They were slow and completely unreliable.  One company didn't even bother to answer the phone! 

I wonder if the gas crunch had something to do with this.  I don't think that's the full story though, as the receptionist at one of these companies appeared to be quite clueless.  Abilene is not a tiny city either, and so several natives expressed surprise at hearing my experiences.

I've read some horrible reviews of these companies on the web as well.
